5 Pat The Roc Quotes Every Hooper Should Read
All “Great” players constantly search for different sources of inspiration. I have found that one of the best ways to stay motivated is through the positive words we feed ourselves with. So before I hit the court, I like to glance at some of my favorite quotes as a reminder of hope on my journey towards “Greatness!”
Pat The Roc Quotes: (All quotes below are written and created by Pat The Roc. Feel free to spread them to your friends and teammates!)
1. “I live by 3 simple letters, A.I.P., which stands for Anything Is Possible!”
Pat’s Point of View: This quote defines my career! Some of the moves and highlights I have pulled off over the years confirm that “Anything Is Possible”. Not to mention, I had every right to seem “Off The Wall” for thinking that I would be traveling the world playing basketball professionally. It’s easy to think it and say it, but the difference is when you believe it! Anything Is Possible.
2. “Good players workout. Great players outwork!”
Pat’s Point of View: This is probably my favorite quote of all time. It’s so true. Throughout my career I have seen many talented ballers that were way better than me. I just wasn’t as tall, or athletic, or talented as they were. So I came up with an idea. I made a promise to myself that every time other players would go workout, I would go outwork! What’s the difference? Working out is what “Good” players do. Come to the gym shoot some jumpshots, do a few drills, just enough to get by. I didn’t want to be “Good”. I wanted to be “Great”. So when I came to the gym I would do the stuff that most players didn’t want to do. Thousands of shots, dribble until my hands started bleeding, that type of stuff. I wouldn’t go at a comfortable pace. I would push myself to exhaustion everyday, 3 times a day. I would “Outwork” so long that I’d see players come to the gym and leave, and I’d still be there. That’s “Outworking!”
3. “Before success, is failure.”
Pat’s Point of View: So many hoopers tell me they are discouraged or ready to give up on their dream. They are upset because they work so hard only to fail over and over again. This is what I tell them - Anyone who has ever achieved anything “Great” in life has failed numerous times along the way. It’s very true. I have been cut from the team plenty of times. I have missed jumpshots plenty of times. Do you think the first time I tried to dunk I made it? No! I failed at it over and over and over again. What I want you to understand is it’s not about how you fail or how much you fail, but rather how you respond to the failure! You can let it make you, or break you! Once I realized failure was a part of the journey to becoming “Great”, I began to achieve some of the greatest successes of my life!
4. “I used to take my basketball everywhere. Now my basketball takes me everywhere!”
Pat’s Point of View: This is very true. I used to take my basketball everywhere! If I didn’t have a ball in my hands then I felt like someone else in the world was working on their game, and I just couldn’t live with the fact that someone was “Outworking” me. People would laugh at me. They would say this guy is a weirdo, he brings his basketball to class, to the library, and even lunch! I simply thought to myself, one day this will pay off. One day this basketball will turn into a globe, and I will have a chance to see the world because I never gave up and wasn’t ashamed to take my ball everywhere!
5. “If I shoot 1000 jumpshots today, then you better believe I’m shooting 1001 tomorrow. Progress.”
Pat’s Point of View: You should always take steps forward each day you workout. That’s the difference between “Good” and “Great”. I want my training to be more difficult today than it was yesterday. That’s progress. Not everyone has what it takes to fulfill the duties of progress. I like to look at like this: Consistency + Repetition = Progress. So the next time you hit the gym and think about slacking, make sure you remember to do more today than you did yesterday! Progress.
