How To Make Your Moves More Effective

Yes I am the man with a million moves, but the fact of the matter is none of my moves would be effective if I didn’t know how to use them correctly. The one thing I try to teach players is how to “sell” their moves.

When I say sell their move, I’m not talking about on ebay. I’m referring to faking out the defender. If you want to drive right, create the illusion that you want to go left and the defender will move that way. The truth is as you move up in higher levels of basketball, you will encounter better defenders. So the same shot fake you used in high school, might not work in college. The same step back you used in college might not work in the pros.

So here is the key to making your moves more effective. You want to use every single part of your body to sell the move. Your eyes, head, feet, hands, and shoulders. A simple look away with your eyes before you go into your jab could be just enough to distract your defender and get that extra split second to get your shot off. A simple turn of the shoulders before you go in to your crossover dribble could send your opponent in the opposite direction. These are the little techniques you will have to add to your moves.
